Meet the team: Graham Goddard
Name: Graham Goddard
Club Position: Chairman
How did you get into the sport / join Havering Tri?
I’d always been a keen cyclist and decided I wanted to be an Ironman before I hit 50. I knew Kay from years ago so contacted her for swim lessons and it snowballed from there !
What’s the best thing about being a member of HTC?
The members. I’ve met some amazing people over the years and seeing them develop and reach their goals never ceases to inspire me.
Most memorable race you have competed in - Ironman France. The race was delayed from its usual dates and held in July during one of the hottest summers on record - it was pushing nearly 40 degrees during the run. The bike course was the most scenic I’ve raced - up into the Alps Martin’s.
Your most embarrassing or funniest moment triathlon related?
When my jammers split open down the central rear seam whilst doing a tumble turn when I was training at a pool in Portugal with Kay. The worse thing was I never noticed and happily mooned all the parents waiting in the balcony until Kay swum behind me and noticed all was not right
What’s the best advice that you would give to a new member of HTC?
Come to sessions, meet your fellow members and feed off of their experiences - most of us have done all of the races and if we haven’t, we will know someone who has. Don’t be afraid to ask questions - one thing triathletes are not shy about is talking about their races and sharing their knowledge.
